Project Rural Flavours

The transnational cooperation project Rural Flavors is accomplished. Three years of cooperation between five countries (Finland, Estonia, Portugal, Cyprus and Croatia) led to several study trips to participating countries’ fairs to learn from each other’s experiences, establish contacts between small businesses and publish marketing materials, including a children’s drawing calendar and video clips. The Hiiumaa LAG made quite a few clips in cooperation with the PATEE project of the Hiiumaa Development Center. While last year the Development Centre’s campaign clips focused on inviting a young family with children to visit Hiiumaa island, based on the development plan of the Hiiumaa LAG and the Hiiumaa municipality, we contributed to the introduction of Hiiumaa as from “silver economy” perspective, ie inviting “experienced” travelers. We take experienced travellers to Hiiumaa different communities with joiky historic nicknames as Coffe Drinkers, Sock Wearers, Barley Fools and Rope Cutters to visit our sights and small entrepreneurs. Partners: Local Action Groups of Finland: Karhuseutu LAG; Estonia: Hiiumaa LAG; Portugal: ADIRN ADL; Spain: Comarca de LaCara (terminated the partnership), ADECOM LACARA; Croatia: LAG Bura; Cyprus: Development Agency of Lemesos LTD; Cyprus: Paphos District Development Agency “Aphrodite”.

The aim of the project is to learn for each others experiences on how to promote local regions with festival events and fairs.

General objectives of the project are: Promotion of local business, increase of tourist in the area, exchange of experience, increase of knowledge on local food, learning of local knowledge and skills, six different languages and cultures – to encourage children to learn, and branding rural areas.
